The Museum is pleased that The Economical Insurance Group Sunday Speaker Series, which began last year featuring topics on Andy Warhol, will continue this winter with The Future Health Care. In association with The Waterloo Region Record, local universities and all three area hospitals – Cambridge Memorial, Grand River and St. Mary’s General – The Museum will present the following line up of dynamic speakers to enlighten visitors on healthy living and the state of health care.

While the aerobic and strength benefits associated with exercise are well known, there is much debate as to what exercise can do for the brain. With neurodegenerative conditions on the rise (such as dementia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s) and a growing older adult population, there is much debate as to whether exercise can benefit our brains as well. This talk will describe some of the research we are doing to evaluate how exercise might benefit individuals with Parkinson’s disease, as well as address many of the truths and myths about exercising our brains.

This talk will review the evolution of our understanding of the pathophysiology of heart failure over the past several hundred years to current time. Emphasis will be on how basic science illuminates clinical problems and how the knowledge of history can help identify new targets for the management of heart failure.
