Kitchener, ON - The Children's Museum is getting back to basics with the introduction of twenty-five school programs developed by Museum staff to meet the Ontario Ministry of Education's curriculum. The programs will assist educators and allow children to learn from across Waterloo Region and beyond. "Over the past ten months we have successfully introduced relevant traveling and permanent exhibits as well as public programs which have allowed us to regain the public's trust." said David Marskell the Museum's CEO. "As a result, the Museum has enjoyed a recent surge in attendance and membership growth and it is now time to turn our attention to our core business of assisting educators with curriculum that is relevant, exciting and hands-on." The Museum's certified Teacher in Residence has lead a team of talented individuals to research and develop a total of twenty-five new and original curriculum based educational programs. These programs range in subject material and grade level to help meet any grade school teacher's needs. "The Teacher in Residence program, introduced this spring, has served as a tremendous aid in our ability to use what the Museum has to offer in terms of exhibits and talents," Marskell went on to say, "and the staff have worked extremely hard to develop the best curriculum programs in the province." "Our educational program team has developed a minimum of one science, one language and one visual arts program for grades 1 to 8, in addition to two new programs at the Kindergarten level, cross curricular programs and programs to complement our upcoming traveling exhibitions such as Techno Bio Style, opening later this month." In January the Museum launched Kids Inspiring Change - Energy Awareness and Conservation Program which enlightened, at no cost to the school or student, 400 grade one students about the ecological importance of energy conservation. The program launched by Dwight Duncan Minister of Energy was applauded by educators, parents, students and even David Suzuki. Marskell explains that, "due to the overwhelming success of the grade one Kids Inspiring Change program, we have extended the program and designed versions of it to match the grades two and five Science and Technology curriculum. With the assistance of key donors we have been able to expand from 400 to more than 4000 students and bookings have already begun." "It is fundamentally important that we re build credibility with educators and school boards and what we have created will go along way in accomplishing that goal." Marskell said.
