The Museum would like to introduce you to two honourary Museum Tweeters: Melanie McArdle (11) and Matthew McArdle (8). The Conestogo Public School students will be tweeting about the launch of the space shuttle Atlantis on the mission STS-132. The mission is in place to bring the Russian Rassvet Mini-Research Module and an item called an Integrated Cargo Carrier-Vertical Light Deployable (ICC-VLD) to the International Space Station. The launch is scheduled for 2:28 pm, today Friday, May 14, 2010.

Melanie and Matthew are at the launch of Atlantis at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida and began tweeting their experience last evening through The Museum's Twitter account @TheMuseum.

"This is an excellent way to let our Twitter followers in on an incredible technological feat with one of the last space shuttle launches," said David Marskell, CEO of The Museum. "Having two students acting as guest reporters on our behalf is not only an exciting moment for them, but also for the many members and friends of The Museum who are able to follow the live updates."

The Twitter mission is just part of the many space-related projects The Museum is taking on this summer as part of its new exhibit, CosmicMania: Our Space Rocks. The hands-on, interactive exhibit is brought together by partnerships between Com Dev International, The Canadian Space Agency, NASA, The Royal Ontario Museum, KW Telescope and Ontario Drive & Gear. The exhibit, currently open features NASA items, astrophotography, a Star Lab, a space rover, a piece of an asteroid, a moon rock, a Martian meteorite, an HD Theatre, and much more.

To follow The Museum on Twitter and see Melanie and Matthew's updates, check out @TheMuseum and please follow and ReTweet throughout today.

CosmicMania will be at The Museum until September 2010.
