Kitchener, ON - It has been less than one year since the Ontario Minister of Energy officially launched the Children's Museum's Energy Awareness and Conservation Program. The program served to educated hundreds of Waterloo Region Grade One children about the different forms of energy and energy conservation.

With the support of the City of Cambridge's Mayor Doug Craig the Museum is now officially launching Phase Two.

The Kids Inspiring Change: Energy Awareness and Conservation Program was developed by The Children's Museum staff in partnership with teachers with the intention of reaching out to the young minds of Waterloo Region. It is designed to educate them on how they can make a difference environmentally. The program which matches the Ministry of Education's curriculum was funded by a number of local companies and the Ministry of Energy and offered to more than 400 grade one students.

After the launch of a Teacher-in-Residence program 25 curriculum based programs have been developed. Phase Two of Kids Inspiring Change has expanded from 25 Grade One classes last year to 100 Grade One, 25 Grade Two and 25 Grade Five classes. In total the number of students who can attend free of charge has grown from 400 to more than 4,000.
This growth is largely due to new partnerships with Erb and Erb Insurance Brokers Ltd. in partnership with The Gore Mutual Insurance Company Foundation, which is based in Cambridge. In addition The Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Foundation has also contributed funding.

Mayor Doug Craig will assist the Museum in formally thanking the Cambridge based organizations.

"Energy conservation and knowledge of the impact upon our environment are fundamental messages the Museum is committed to instilling in our visitors," said David Marskell, CEO of the Children's Museum. "We are delighted by the support of the community and the Ministry of Energy which allows us to assist teachers in getting this message to students at an early age and set an example for other communities right across the province."
