Robotic Chair Meets the Stars |
| Posted by Children's Museum Admin (cmadmin) on Thursday, 13th September, 2007 at 2:02 PM |
Kitchener, ON - The Children's Museum is busy preparing to unveil all new educational programs, public programming and exhibits. There is no doubt however that the arrival of The Robotic Chair on September 21st is one of the most anticipated and the excitement is continuing to build since the announcement of the Chair's starring role in Peter Lynch and Max Dean's new film which will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival this week.
Prior to its four month stay at the Museum the Chair will be performing this weekend at screenings of its new movie, "A Short Film About Falling." The film, directed in collaboration by Peter Lynch and Max Dean, is an exploration of autobiography and the notion of falling. It uses The Robotic Chair as "the thread that entwines reenactments of the filmmakers' childhood memories, variations on the theme of suspension and philosophical contemplations about mortality."
Developed by Canadian artists Max Dean, Matt Donovan and American artist Raffaello D'Andrea, the Robotic Chair, which was on display for 10 days in June at Toronto's Luminato, comes to The Museum with the help of the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery and the Musagetes Foundation. The Chair, which intermittently falls apart into several scattered pieces, independently and randomly puts itself back together for audiences.
"The Museum is fortunate to have the opportunity to host this now world famous robot as proven by its appearance at Lunimato and the Toronto International Film Festival," said David Marskell, CEO of the Children's Museum, "It fits the Museum's mission and vision perfectly as an expression of the intersection of art and technology that will awe, inspire and enlighten kids and adults alike."
The Robotic Chair opens at the Museum's fourth birthday party beginning at 6p.m. Friday September 21st and will be on display on the fourth floor until January 6th 2008.
