The Darcys perform concert for Museum fundraiser |

Kitchener, ON - The Darcys are a Toronto band by way of Halifax, or a Halifax band by way of Toronto, depending on when you ask, but for two weeks last spring they were a band from the Region of Waterloo. During this time, The Darcys stationed themselves, their instruments and their recording equipment at The Children's Museum and successfully recorded their second LP.
By day, The Darcys catered to the Children's Museum's visitors by mentoring grade school children in the art and science of making a CD and by night they laid down track after track until a full 13 song album had been created. In addition to a full length album, the entire two week session was recorded documentary style for the thesis project of a fourth year student at Ryerson University.
Recording the LP Endless Water at the Children's Museum proved to be a creative and inspirational event for the up and coming band. The Museum provided a symbolic backdrop for four young men apprehensively emerging from their own childhood and the essence of this representation was captured on CTV in an interview available on the band’s website.
The band is now looking to give back to the Museum and the community that helped make the recording of this album feasible. The Darcys, who are now touring Eastern Canada, plan to make one performance stop in Kitchener early this January. In recognition for the opportunity to create their album within their walls, The Darcys will perform one show only with all proceeds will be given to support The Children's Museum.
Since the official release of the album in July, Endless Water has been featured on community radio stations and is currently charting on five university radio stations going to #3 in Toronto and #7 in Montreal. Waterloo Region's own Qatalyst Magazine recommends Endless Water in their December 2007 Gift Guide. In describing their music on their online blog, they say "the LP has the skewed sonics and experimentalism of a Broken Social Scene, with the pounding rock of the Constantines or Neil Young, the harmonies of a drunken Fleetwood Mac all strummed and sung with breathless naiveté of a band on the run from itself."
The Darcys Pay-What-You-Can/Give-Till-It-Hurts Concert is a tune up for their national tour taking place in the summer of 2008. Guaranteed tickets are available in advance at the Museum. The Kitchener performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday January 7, 2008 at Theatre and Company in downtown Kitchener. The evening will also include a sneak preview of the in progress documentary.
